Refund & Cancellation Policy
This policy applies to every booking paid through a website hosted by LocalPilot. The operator you booked with delivers the trip and sets its own cancellation terms within the rules below; LocalPilot processes the refund.
1. If the operator cancels
Operators sometimes have to cancel: unsafe weather or sea conditions, a mechanical problem with the boat, a crew emergency, or any other safety concern. When the operator cancels a trip for any reason, you receive a full refund of everything you paid, including LocalPilot’s share. The operator may offer to reschedule instead; accepting is always your choice, and you can take the refund if the new date does not work.
2. If you cancel
Guest cancellations follow the cancellation policy the operator shows on the experience page and at checkout. Unless the operator states otherwise, the default policy is:
- Free cancellation up to 7 days before departure. Cancel at least seven full days before the trip’s scheduled start time and you receive a full refund.
- Inside 7 days: no refund. Cancellations made less than seven days before departure are non-refundable, because the operator has held the boat and crew for you and is unlikely to fill the date. The operator may still agree to a refund, a partial refund, or a new date at their discretion; ask them directly using the contact details in your confirmation email.
If an operator has published a different policy, that policy applies to your booking. The policy shown at checkout is the one that counts.
3. No-shows and late arrivals
Not showing up, or arriving so late that the trip cannot depart, is treated as a cancellation inside the 7-day window and is not refundable. Please arrive at the meeting point shown in your confirmation with time to spare.
4. Changing your booking
To move your date, change the number of guests, or switch packages, contact the operator. Changes depend on availability. A change that lowers the price is refunded as a partial refund; a change that raises it is charged as a new payment.
5. Trips cut short
If the captain ends a trip early for safety reasons, the operator decides whether to offer a partial refund or a credit based on how much of the experience was delivered. Trips cut short because of a guest’s conduct are not refunded.
6. How refunds are paid
Refunds are issued by Stripe to the original payment method. Once a refund is approved you will see the money back on your card within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. We cannot refund to a different card or in cash. If a refund has not arrived after ten business days, contact your bank first, then email hello@joinlocalpilot.com with your booking reference and we will trace it.
7. Disputes
If you and the operator cannot agree about a cancellation, email us with your booking reference and what happened. We will review the booking record, the policy shown at checkout, and any messages, and we will apply this policy. Please contact us before opening a chargeback with your bank; a chargeback on a booking that was delivered as described may lead to the closure of your guest account.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Bookings are governed by the version in effect when they were made. See also our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
